Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
